RAINWATER HARVESTING

According to the Rain Centre in Chennai, every inch of rainfall on a 2000 sq ft roof collects 4731 litres of rainwater. Optimising the collection and storage of rainwater from the roofs and the ground surfaces empowers each household to reuse rainwater for daily purposes and recharge the groundwater aquifers which in turn increase the output of private wells. Using simple techniques of roof pipes, underground tanks, recharge wells, grates and overhead tanks, the City of 1000 Tanks aims to maximise rainwater collection and recharge at the scale of every household.
